most helpful. Keep up the good work."Pippi Longstocking" is one of the world's best-loved children's
books. It was originally written in Swedish, and has been translated
into many languages. Its genre can be characterized as "Juvenile
Fantasy," although its status as a timeless classic transcends genres.
In Sweden, this book is called "Pippi L ngstrump." The book (which was
first published in 1945) tells of the marvelous adventures of Pippi,
an extraordinary 9-year-old girl who has bright red pigtails, amazing
strength, and a zestful attitude. Pippi is rich, and she lives alone
without any adults telling her what to do, since her father, a pirate,
is usually off traveling the seven seas. In many of Pippi's adventures
she achieves victory over various bossy, interfering grown-ups. Pippi
is a good-hearted, fun-loving action heroine whose sometimes surreal
adventures can be enjoyed by readers of all ages.
Pippi's creator, Astrid Lindgren, died earlier this year at the age of
94. Lindgren's books have sold over 100 million copies in some 80
languages, and at least 40 films and television series have been based
on her works.
Astrid Lindren was awarded many prizes for her books, including the
Hans Christian Andersen medal and the Lewis Carroll Shelf Award in
recognition of the Pippi stories.
