Plug in hybrid sports car? Coming when? And from whom?

  • I thought the GM Volt would be "it", but the production version isn't quite the sporty coupe the concept drawings made it out to be. Also, the Toyota FT-HS concept has been quiet of late (possibly dead)? Although with our luck it'd turn out to be a minivan. Has anyone heard any news on a PHEV, or "extended range electric vehicle" sports coupe coming any time soon?

  • I'd go with the Tesla hands down

  • There are plans available for a DIY PHEV that is pretty sporty looking. Its actually a three-wheel vehicle that gets 225MPG on diesel and battery power, or 125 MPG on diesel only. It has a range of 40 miles on battery only. Top speed of 80MPH.

  • Chrysler is going to release the electric sports car in 2010 same as the GM's Volt. It was featured at the recent LA auto show.

  • You can always go for the pure plug-in (non-hybrid) Tesla Roadster.. That puppy is in production and will set you back $100,000.
