MY UNCLE IS ANEMIC, CAN HE CLAIM SICK PAY?

  • my uncle suffer's from anorexia,he's 42 and very thin, he's never been into work,he's allways been on the dole,but he's had his money stopped recently by the dole for refuseing to go on a course, can he claim sick by being anemic?

    Your uncle will not be paid sick pay unless it is stopping him from working. What doctors will tend to do is see what he is capable of instead of signing him off.
    Being anemic is not serious. It can be treated very easily and wil keep him stable. And as for always being on the dole. He will most certainly never be paid sick pay for that..the dole is used for people who cant find a job or are payed off, Not for someone ill.
    The reason the dole done that is because they know he is capable.


  • No, because anorexia can be cured by food, not medicine. Anorexia is a psychological problem, unless there's an org set up for that kind of problem that i dont know about.

    The only real way he can be cured is eating more nutrients and fat, i suggest eating meat. Beef usually does it, pork and chicken works fine as well

  • Being aneamic will not stop him from working and so he will not be able to claim benefits for it. His anorexia however should be treated as that is more than likely the cause of his aneamia.
    I'd be more concerned though that he's never worked in his life and refuses to go on courses that could be beneficial to him. Staying at home never helps people with health problems such as anorexia as they will not build an appetite by watching the tv all day. What your uncle really needs is to get out of the house and begin to work in a social environment, it will do him the world of good as it can give him an aim, a goal and will benefit not only his physical health but his mental health too.
    You need to help your uncle, not by getting him out of work, but by getting him into work, that is if you really care about his health and well being.


  • Anemia can be treated very effectively. There's no reason for him to be on sick leave. He's not "into" work? Most men don't have anorexia. Are you sure there is nothing else wrong? I would hope he has had a good check up.


  • No. Can I get out of work by having IBS and arthritis in my right hand? No. Some of us just have to live with problems and get on with it anyway. If you start giving every loser with a sickness a free handout where do you stop?
