I am trying to find out what hot water heaters are made out of and if they can be sold for salvage.?

  • i am running short of money and would like to try to sell it

  • The whole tank system is a sheet of metal over an inch or so of insulation over a steel tank. Some of the tanks are lined with glass, but most aren't. Most any scrap yard would take the whole setup. Expect to get around 2 1/2 cents a pound for it.

  • The tanks are usually glass lined cast iron.

I don't believe they have much salvage value.

  • Hi,

There is few ways to build a SOLAR water heater. One of those is using an OLD hot water heater. You have to make some little changes on it and then sell it as solar water heater. Other way also is salvaginig some parts of a fridge, you may be interested on that too.

Here is a guide were it will tell you how to do this:

  • The heating element may be made of copper and copper is high right now, bigger water heaters will have 2 elements. I hope this helps.
