How much should u tip a local tattoo artist?

  • im thinking about getting a signature on my shoulder and its going to be small about 3 or 4 inches long and 1 inch high and cost anywhere from 50-100 dollars so how much should i tip....or should i not tip at all?

  • My brother is a tattoo artist and people whould usual give him somewhere between 10-20 dollars as a tip for a tat that size. But as a rule for him(I don't know how many time I have hear him say this to people tiping him)"Take a good look at your tat, the service that was provided and the way the artist treated you before, during and after the prosses. And then give what you feel is right"
What can I say- he is a little strange, but he seems to get repeat work and great tips.

  • It's nice to tip if you can.
Ok, I did something stupid, the whole heart and butterfly and rose I got cost $120 and I gave him $80 more......
done laughing? lol yes I no stupid
but you should tip him anywhere between 15-20% kind of like restaurants. So give him $15?

  • It depends on how much you like the tat, and how much you think the artist deserves.

  • I typically tip $25 per hour worth of work. For something smaller, I would suggest somewhere in the $10 to $20 range. You should always tip when they are providing you with a service. Keep in mind that the shop usually gets a portion of each tattoo that they give, so they are not making the entire amount unless they own the shop. If you tip someone for a meal that you are eating that is only going to last a couple hours in your stomach, shouldn't you tip an artist that is giving you something that will be on your body for life?

  • As far a tattoo etiquette goes tipping is up to the person who is getting the tattoo. HOWEVER. If you want to go back to the person and get more work done at a later date I would suggest tipping. Tip what you think is appropriate based on the work done. For a 50 dollar tattoo I would tip 10 double for a 100 dollar tattoo. I'm covered from the neck down and I tipped on everyone of them. It's kind of like not leaving a tip for a waitress. Plus it shows your appreciation for the work, but like I said it's not written anywhere that you have to. My only othe word of advice make sure he guarantees his or her work.
