frame animation or motion/shape animation?

  • I know that motion/shape animations cause less lags then frame-by-frame animation, I'm making a game and I think the speed of the Flash Player is very important.
is it better to make all the motions in Flash, then play it directly or export the animation into .gif file and import them in Flash again(in order to make frame-by-frame animation)? Because the second way has a huge(I think) advantage: when you set the quality of the movie to low, the graphics' quality doesn't change for real since they're gif

  • Motion/shape animation man. My brother (who is Flash guru) constantly tells me to never use anything but warped shapes because you can process them ridiculously faster.
Goto biteycastle.com for a prime example of why you should do frame by frame animation. Takes infinite long to load/choppy on slower comps.
Vectors > BMP in every way so far as speed is concerned.

  • I wouldnt say tweens cause less lag. I usually convert motion tweens to frames once the animation is done as I seem to get better performance. Shape tweens I tend to just leave alone. Results sometimes vary.

As far as making it frame by frame there's no need to export and import as gif. Just hightlight your entire tween on the timeline, convert to frames, and with the frames still selected remove the tween.

  • yeah, but it's still vectors if you don't convert them into .gif file(bmp). Once you convert it even if you're in the low quality mode the graphic doesn't change
