FA want to move final to Wednesday

  • Thay are idiots. What absolute idiots.

I wish FIFA would just clear off.

  • It can't be on a Wednesday it just can't :( . First Cardiff and now this I am sure they do it just to upset me.

If it happens, it looks like it would be a one-shot deal in order to get all of the domestic competitions out of the way by mid-May in preparation for the World Cup (which begins on June 9). The Premiership is tentatively scheduled to end by May 14th, and the provisional date for the Final right now is May 20th. If it's one year, it may be something you have to live with in order to allow everyone time to rest up before the World Cup.

  • I am more English than you will ever be...born in Manchester,( Park Hospital, Davyhulme, near Urmston April 28th 1948) an Old Trafford regular by age of 8...watched the Busby Babes in person, yes Berry, Coleman, Pegg, Edwards Taylor and the rest... was there when Man U played sheff wednesday in the FA Cup right after Munich, we won 3-0 ( so don't preach to me you f'in idiot) played for Blackpool and the national team...moved to the USA and have American children...If you and your moronic modern day mates cared a flying monkeys about ENGLAND you would realise that the performance of the NATIONAL TEAM is more important than the FA cup being played on a f--kin' wednesday...

    F--kin moron...

    forgot to add...UP YOURS....

  • 100 years ago the FA cup was the dominant player...these days compared to the WC its just a quaint little tournament that ranks no.3 on the list of trophies to be won by the English (and Welsh) teams that enter it...the rest of the friggin' world ( there is world out there you know) wants to play the WC at a time when it suits EVERY BODY else not just the friggin English ( and please, don't bash me on that point as I am most definately English)...you lot need to get with the modern world...play the FA f,in cup a few days early in mid week and help the National Team better prepare for a tournament that REALLY counts...you lot are the first to bitch and moan (and blame Sven) when England goes out in the quarter finals....GIVE THEM A CHANCE, MOVE THE FA F--Kin' CUP FINAL forward a few days...the world will NOT come to an end...give you lot something else to do on a wednesday besides play darts and hammer the old lady....F the lot of yer....F'in morons...

If you were English then you would be 100% against this. Because like everyone else in this country the Saturday FA cup day is special. I grew up watching Saturday afternoon cup finals, as did everyone else.

If they do this, then they would be selling out the FA cup to a more media tackied tournament. If this was the League Cup, then by all means. But leave this thing alone. Its the only traditional thing we have left in England any more.

I'm all for the "modern world", but part of accepting the new ways is not to forget the old ones. Remember this match has NEVER been played on a evening on a wednesday (bar replays of course.) Accroding the FIFA, everyone invented the game. Ugh, get their grubby left-wing and socialist hands off our traditions.

We are already selling out our country to the EU.

btw, where in England are you from? Because I don't think you are English...and you don't even live in Europe. So what ********ing reason do you have to dictate your views upon the rest of us. Maybe we should hold the FA cup in the US every year? Don't even get me started on your negative stereotyping, well you kinda haven't grasped that taking the piss out yourself like the good ol' fashioned British humour. Except this requires wit and intelligance. Something you don't have my deluded amigo.

  • You know, you would have a point, if it was the way it was many a year ago, when the top sides where chock full of our International players.

The game has moved on, it seems you haven't!

Imagine if you will, Arsenal and Aston Villa in the final.

    2 players.

    Whats that you say?

Yep, 2 National team players would be getting the benefit of this added 'rest'.

Would work just about the same for any of the top sides.

Why are you having a hard time seeing this?

maybe because the chances of Aston Villa being in the FA cup final are as remote as England's being in a WC cup final if the FA and premier league don't start working together for the benifit of THE NATIONAL TEAM...

  • If it's not at wembley, move it , let them, what's the difference. Whilst it's so far away from home it's no bother.

  • sorry but you and others are just missing the much bigger picture...ANYTHING that helps England to perform better in the World Cup HAS to be embraced...England's good performance directly helps the game at all levels in England...whats the f'in big deal ?? play the FA cup final on a wednesday ? so f'in what....

THE NATIONAL TEAM IS THE FUEL THAT STOKES THE FIRE OF THE GAME AT EVERY LEVEL IN ENGLAND....everything else should...and must...take a back seat...when England plays in a WC the WHOLE country shuts down it most certainly doesn't shut down whenever man u, chelsea, arsenal, or whoever play...SEE THE BIG PICTURE PEOPLE FOR GOD'S SAKE !!!!

you all want and expect the National Team to do very well at the World Cup...but you are not willing to move the FA cup a few days forward to accomodate same...???? you have collectively lost your f--kin' marbles....

out of curiosity, do you care more about England or Manchester United? There arent many Utd and England fans around.

  • I like that attitude, even though I like the tradition of the Saturday FA Cup.

Every football fan should have a sign tacked to his wall: "It's all about the World Cup, stupid!"

  • mmmmmmm.

The FA cup is like well over 100 years old whereas the WC was just a pipe dream when teams were conteseting this tournament.

FIFA couldn't give a s***t about this competition. I still remember the centerary game last season which several Man Utd players couldn't play at the FA cup final due to the schedule of this silly event.

If the Premier League and FA is so concerned, then they would play next season early (July time) and hence have the season end at the last week of April. That way having the final on the 1st Saturday of May.

But, no. That would be too ********ing simple for the air-headed suits at the FA. Yes, lets break a 100 plus yr old tradition just so the international squad can have more time to prepare for the WC. Last-time I looked, the WC was in Germany. How long do these guys need? They should already know eachother inside out, this isn't even a plausible excuse. If you play on a regular basis throughout qualification and when you meet up you should just click straightaway - if they can't do that - then they don't deserve the WC. England have had 2 years of "warming up" for this tournament - plus 40 odd weeks of regular season football.

The prestige of the FA cup is only thing untouched by the moster that is FIFA, trying to rid any type of national identity and make ever thing the same. Bastards. I say put the WC back some weeks.

  • Sorry, don't agree with it.
Some traditions just shouldn't be messed with.

Just as an aside, seeing as Manchester United and Millwall contested last seasons final, how much good would it have done for the national team,(anyone that says 'nats', when refering to the English team will get a mug slap), as opposed to going against tradition and grand day out, on a weekend, for the fans of the respective clubs involved?

  • This is probably just a diversionary tactic to later make changes to the Premiership season (more matches patched in) and League Cup (one-leg semis) to move the Premiership end back one week.

I was born in Manchester into a long line of Man U fans...my grand dad was a regular since 1908. I was a regular at Old Trafford from the age of nine...1957...watched the Busby babes in person... Since moving to The States ( I played and coached in the NASL for fourteen years) I am most definately an England fan first and formost....and as I believe the continued growth of the game in England is directly related to the success of the National team, I find it almost comical that some of you think moving the FA cup final forward a few days to benifit the National team somehow demeans the English game. Nothing could be further from the truth. Answer this question.....33,000 plus showed up at pride park to watch England u 21's play holland a couple of days ago...what is Derby County's average attendence this year ??? many more people in England care much more about the national team than they do about any SINGLE English club..THE NATIONAL TEAMS PREPERATION FOR MAJOR TOURNAMENTS HAS TO BE A PRIORITY FOR EVERYONE INTERESTED IN THE GAME IN ENGLAND...

    it just has to be...

    :D
    Well said.

You know, given the fact that there may only be 4 or 5, at most, of our International players actually playing in the final, it was a stupid idea to even suggest it in the first place.

Let alone have to reason why it shouldn't be switched!
