Are there more Atheist in this section of the forums than religious?

  • I noticed that a big majority of Atheist seem to hang out in this section of the forums which appear to be a bit awkward in my thought. Why is it when someone on the forums answer a question in a religious perspective they receive a plethora of thumbs down? Just like Atheist, can't religious have their say without getting a negative feedback? A lot of this does not make since whatsoever.


  • I hang out here with the hope that I can help some poor bible belt kid who has come here to try and get some perspective other than "because the bible said so".

    As for thumbs down, they don't really count toward anything. That said, I only give them for really ignorant answers like "because the bible said so".

    Reporting answers, on the other hand, seems to be a much more christian thing to do, and really annoys me. I'll gladly take 16 thumbs down (my current personal best), but people who get answers removed really suck. (of course there are some blatantly offensive answers out there, but "disrespectful" is not a good reason to report someone)

  • As far as I'm concerned Atheism is a kind of religion, as is Communism in places like China and the old Soviet Union.

    Atheists have a doctrine, they believe there no god. They believe they are right and everybody else is wrong, just like many religious people do. Some can even quote chapter and verse from the Bible to attempt to disprove the Bible or point out the contradictions as they see it. .

    Communists also have a religion, they believe in the their leader as a god, like the Chinese did Mao for many years.

    I believe everybody has freedom of religion or non-belief in religion. I can discus it with non-believers. But I do not like it if anybody, believer or non-believer gets rude toward people with other ways of thinking.

    While I disagree with atheists and agnostics I think it is good that people of all philosophies have a forum as long as they are considerate of other people's thinking.

  • Yeah...and it's pretty ironic, since this is the "Religion" section, not the "Non-religion" section...it seems that the majority of Atheists who come on here are only here to bash the religious people.
    Sorry to those Atheists who actually want to ask serious questions.


  • Because atheism is spreading, it is proving to be the truth, and people are finally realizing it.


  • I guess people discuss topics that interest them or impact them. Rather like the people who discuss an election aren't the ones who are actually running for office.

    I do agree.There are a lot of Atheists/Agnostics here.I'm an Agnostic,and I come here to get good laughs.I see a lot of hilarious answers from everyone. It's one of my favorites on Y!A


  • Why does it seem odd to you that atheists are in the relgion and spirituality section? Have you ever studied the beliefs of Buddhism or Jainism?

    I have studied many different religions and philosophies and am quite capable of answering questions on these.

  • They just cannot get enough of religion -- so funny.

    Obviously, their philosophy is quite insufficient in being fulfilling, no hope, no inherent morality, no inherent intelligence. Some teach that becoming more intelligent gives birth to morality -- while the world around us gives adequate negative proof of that.

    They have got to go somewhere to get their spiritual fix.

    I guess they like to be reminded of God and the teachings they left. Otherwise, it makes no sense them coming here. Why they don't have an Evolution / Atheist Yahoo section they all congregate in and leave us to our faith, I do not understand.

    After all, they have a government sponsored brainwashing program in place in schools and higher learning centers while we have to spread the teachings of Christ person to person.

    I don't thumbs-down unless the answer is blatantly obscene or nonsensical. I don't thumbs-down out of mere disagreement.

    I get plenty of thumbs-down for answering from my perspective. A careful, well thought out, considerate answer from an atheist will receive at least one thumbs-down in this section simply because it's unpopular.

    By the way, there are religious & spiritual atheists. Buddhism & Jainism are atheistic religions. Some atheists believe in a "spiritual realm" while other practice "magic". I belong to not religion and don't believe in anything supernatural, but I still have information to impart upon those who seek it, so there's no reason for me to stay away.


  • No we just keep a lot of spares hanging around so when we get suspended for telling the truth we can keep right on annoying the reporters .

    Negative feedback is the best way to control a machine { or religion } If we criticize you constructively we can always hope you will change for the better . Positive feedback will just cause you too oscillate out of control and I think 2,000 years of that is more than enough don't you ?
