Should gambling gimmicks like a death pool be illegal?

Death Pools involve people gambling about the precise day and year that a person (commonly a celebrity) might die, should gambling gimmicks that involve life and death matters, such as the death pool be illegal? Why or why not? It is sad that there are people in society who want to bet on this kind of thing. But my concern is that America already has such crazy, illogical and draconian anti-gambling laws in most areas. So any law changes that would further marginalize gambling and freedom in this country would not be something I would want to support.
