Do you talk to your dog as is if they can actually understand you?

I think I’m losing it.

I was just out for a walk with my two and suddenly realised I was actually talking to them as if they could understand me.

It has been a tough week at work but please tell me it’s not just me!

i talk to my cocker spaniel all the time, he's like talking to a friend but without actually having to listen to all their crap as well! that's what they're there for! but give them treats after you've had a moan because if they could talk back they'd probably tell us to stop moaning at them!!

My cat is my brother lol i talk to him about everything and he cant tell me to shut up either!

Nah, people do it all the time they cant actually understand your words but they can understand your tone of vouice and act in a neccesary way. I talk to my cat when i come home he is there and i talk to him and cuddle him!

Yes, sometimes in English, and sometimes we just make friendly noises at each other, which is my attempt at speaking dog.

I had a labrador collie cross, and I talked to him all day - and if you do, they pick up certain words and keep them. Such as, I would say, "I am going to make some lunch" and he would walk toward the kitchen.

Or if I said, should we go to the pond? No, it's flooded, we'll go to the barn, he would walk up the barn way before I started to move.

So, you're not losing it, but I miss my dog, I talk to photographs of him! Now that's losing it!

Thats one of the things that make dogs so appealing.. they cuddle up beside you while you can vent to them! :) Sometimes by their expressions.. you think they know whats going on.

No - I do it all the time, especially after a hard day at work or anywhere else. They like the sound of my voice and I feel like I am getting things off my chest (cheaper than a therapist and more cuddly -lol)

They can actually understand you by what you are thinking. So that means , even if you're hiding your thoughts from your pet, they know what you are thinking.

don't worry bout it lots of people do it especially if you've have no one to talk to you. dogs and cats can understand you they hear the words like we do they just don't know what they mean or how to say anything back also the hole animals can smell fear is int true but if you wanna communicate with your pets and make them happy if your sad or depressed and your showing it in your outward emotions there gonna understand your not to happy and may avoid you if your yelling and are angry there gonna avoid you but if lets say your on a walk i run a dog walking service and i noticed every once in awhile they slow down and don't wanna walk and when i ust to walk them in the past i wouldn't show any good emotion with my face and i wouldn't say something but i noticed if i talk to them really happy almost like there baby's or toddlers they wag their tail and pick up the pace so talking to your dogs can b a good thing do sweat it.

My dog knows the name of all his soft toys, and brings the one I ask for every time. When I ask him if he wants out for a wee, a drink or his dinner he barks at the one he wants, but last thing at night, when I tell him to go to his bed, he completely ignores me, and I have to carry him to his bed. So does he understand me, I believe he does.

to me dogs are not just pets but friends and companions :)
i talk to my two all the time and they listen, we have interesting conversations ! lol :D
its a pity they don't listen when they do something naughty! lol :D

my dog understands some of the things i say to her (and i don't care what the experts say!) eg if i tell her to "hop off" she will , always .
plus i talk to her lots , understand or not ,she likes it and it strengthens bonding.(and i don't care what the experts say ,we understand each other) so u talking to ur dogs is GOOD.
